Home to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River, the City of Jacksonville has grown rapidly since 1941 when Camp Lejeune was established. The same qualities that drew the Marine Corps to build the world’s most complete amphibious base in Onslow County were also some of the same qualities that caused the City’s first residents to settle along the New River back in 1713.
The City of Jacksonville’s growth was steady until 1990 when the City annexed portions of Camp Lejeune and more than doubled the reported population overnight. In partnership with the Marine Corps, the City of Jacksonville’s population estimate is 81,612. With a modern transit system and contemporary infrastructure Jacksonville continues to improve the quality of life for its citizens
